Lithology and Thickness

A grouping of Late Cretaceous (Coniacian through Maastrichtian) formations – sand-rich in outcrops, clay-rich sub-surface.

Outcrop succession in approximate lower to upper order: Sillakkudi Fm sandstone / Kallankurichchi Fm limestone / Ottakovil Fm sandstone / Kallamedu Fm sandstone.

Sub-surface in approximate lower to upper order: Kudavasal Fm claystone / Nannilam Fm claystone / Portonovo Fm claystone / Komarakshi Fm claystone.
